WPTA was established to offer high quality coaching to adults and juniors in fantastic community locations.

A message from our founder Steve Cockell..
Steve Cockell has been teaching for over 25 years and is the current Director of Tennis for WPTA having founded the business in 2018
Welcome to the Wimbledon Park Tennis Academy and thanks for checking in on our coaching services. We are now in our 8th year of operations and its a very strange time as we are forced to leave our home and work elsehwere due to regulations placed on us by the very borough we have helped in the last 8 years. Undeterred, we are still willing and able to offer players tennis lessons in the Wimbledon area and I hope players will continue to look to WPTA as a place to get expert advice and coaching in the next chapter of our operations.
OUR STORY
High quality, accessible coaching..
WPTA was set up in September 2018 by LTA professional of 25 years Steve Cockell. Steve had been working locally at the National Tennis Centre in partnership with former British No.1 Annabel Croft, designing and running a program for over 400 weekly players. He left that organisation to set up WPTA and offer the same high level coaching services to a new audience based in the Wimbledon community and with no restrictions on joining the program.
Now running into its 8th year, WPTA has recently been dealt a crushing blow by Merton Council who has established a monopoly on the tennis courts via a partnership with Emma Wells tennis under the new name Tennis In Merton. WPTA as a result have been unfairly terminated and prevented from running coaching in Wimbledon Park under this current management model.
Whilst our customers, coaches and local residents continue to campaign about the actions of Tennis In Merton, WPTA has formed a partnership with Metrotennis to help our Wimbeldon services continue. We now work at Metrotennis venues until the point that rules in local parks in Wimbledon will open back up. WPTA remain as committed as ever to helping adult and junior players enjoy, learn and improve their tennis at local venues.
"Wimbledon Park is a precious community asset and I have campaigned alongside residents for years to protect it as a public green space."
Fleur Anderson, MP
WPTA has received countless emails and letters of support campaigning against the forced closure of our services in Wimbledon Park. We believe that LBM and Emma Wells Tennis have acted in an inappropriate manner both in their handling of our business, and in their desire to represent the overall opinion and wishes of the local residents who regularly pay for coaching across several programs in Wimbledon Park.
